Session 2, The "Dig It!" Special

Bob and Drew are back at Summer Spree for Session 2 with another awesome special in the Children's Garden! Every summer, their project is a favorite among the Summer Spree campers and staff alike! In previous years, they've enlisted the kids' help in creating a beautiful classroom in the garden with a table and stools decorated with mosaic tiles. All the while, the kids were digging, tiling, pouring concrete, and letting their imaginations run wild under Drew & Bob's guidance. This summer, they've come back to create a second classroom at the other end of the Garden, a bit farther away from the newly-built outdoor pizza oven. Right now, they are in the process of digging and laying the foundations for the new classroom with the kids' help. Caution: the following photos may involve some messy children having an outstanding time.
Lena and Falina mixing up a bucket of hay and mud to help with the foundations for the classroom table.

Grace getting a mud-soaked high-five from Drew.

A little rinse-off from the hose, and the Yellow Group is ready to take on the rest of their day.

For members of the group who are less interested in mud-stomping, a tile-making station is set up in the classroom they made in previous summers.
Can't wait to follow the progress back there! Keep up the good work!

Session III: Yoga, and Sculpture, and Treasure, Oh My!

This afternoon, I got to catch a glimpse of Summer Spree's much-loved Afternoon Yoga Special. Groups rotate to multiple specials all day long, but Yoga is always a favorite, especially since the kids get to spend some time in the cool ballroom.

Next stop, I found the Turquoise Group working on what appeared to be a construction project, putting together large scale sculptures. Seems their room might undergo a big transformation for their Art Show on Friday!

Soon, this will start to come together and look more and more like a 3D whale!

Finally, I stopped in to see the Red Group, where Lucy and Robbie were putting some final sandy touches onto their Treasure Maps. They used oil pastels on brown construction paper to make their maps and draw paths, and I came in while these two were adding colorful sand with glue sticks to key areas on their maps.

So much concentration on such little faces! Lucy has loads of treasure to find on her map!
